Europe Sketchbook, Part I (2024)

Hello!

Last year I went with my mom to Europe for one month thanks to my previous job. We went to Estonia, Tallinn first for two weeks and then head to our second adventure Turkey, Istanbul.

One of my wishes in my bucket list was to travel around Europe and sketch/draw in my scketchbook. It was easier said than done (like most of the things in life). I tried to carry my sketchbook with me whenever I went but sometimes I forgot to sketch (or was to tired), and instead was busy '“touristing.” I don’t have any regrets, I did my best to capture things that interested me the best I could. I’m going to share some of the pages of my sketchbook with you.

Brunch at La Boulangerie - Tallinn, Estonia

We stayed in Tallinn for two weeks due to work, and I had the chance to meet my friend Giulia in a nearby local cafe/bakery and catch up about life. I ordered a Latte and a pistachio croissant (I apologize for the misspelling in my sketchbook).

KUMO - Tallinn, Estonia

Unfortunately, I didn’t have much energy to sketch in Tallinn as I wanted to.

We went to the Art Museum in Tallinn and had lunch at the museum cafe. I sketched a maple tree in front of the cafe and a exhibition display at the museum called Jevgeni Zolotko.

Black Tea and Mosque - Turkey, Istanbul

Once I finished my two weeks of work in Tallinn, we headed up to Turkey, Istanbul. One of my destinations to travel saved in my bucket list. I always dreamt of going to Istanbul since I could remember.

The architecture of the city is just breathtaking. My eyes were so busy trying to catch up with everything I saw. I had to draw the tea cup, is a must. Istanbul is known not only for their mosques but also for their dome style architecture.

Istanbul Architecture - Sultan Ahmet Park

Istanbul Architecture

I don’t like to sketch in public because I don’t like to bring attention, so sketching in public was a challenge. I needed to overcome this challenge if I wanted to accomplish one of my wishes. I finally sat down and drew the surroundings while there were people next to me. There was a lady next to me who were praising me in her language and asked me if she could take a picture of me drawing. I guess it wasn’t so bad to draw in public.

Last days in Istanbul and going to Italy, Rome

I will end part 1 of these Europe sketchbook series here. Next pages were sketches I did when I was in Italy, Rome.

I hope you liked these sketches and if you have a chance to comment which one was your favorite.

Thank you!
